Parish of Somerton, March 25th 1884.

At a Vestry held this day in the Vestry room of this Parish pursuant to due notice of which the following is a copy:

Notice is hereby given that a Vestry will be held in the Vestry Room of this Parish on Tuesday the 25th instant at 11 o’clock in the forenoon for the purposes of appointing churchwardens, Overseers ad Waywardens for the ensuing year.

                And also to elect members of the Burial Board in place of the retiring members who are eligible for re-election.

Proposed by Mr James Parsons and seconded by W D Snook that F W Pinney Esq take the chair – carried.

The minutes of the last Vestry were read and approved.

                Proposed by Mr W D Snook and seconded by Mr Hodges that Messrs George Clarke and J Peddle be added to the list of Overseers.

                Proposed by Mr Hewson and seconded by Mr Parsons that Messrs Talbot and Crocker continue to serve as Waywardens.  Proposed by Mr James Nutt and seconded by Mr J W Nutt that Messrs J Wyatt and W Snook junior served as Waywardens. After a show of hands the first two were unanimously elected to serve.

                Proposed by Mr John Wyatt and seconded by Mr W Nutt that the Assistant Overseer should writ e to the Langport Board of Guardians that in the opinion f this meeting the Press ought to be admitted to the Board room, and also that a letter be sent to the Chairman of the Highway Board as well. Carried unanimously.

                Proposed by Mr W Hewson and seconded by Mr J Peddle that a list of names of persons who do not pay the School Rate be made out and published at the church door.

                Proposed by Mr Hewson and seconded by Mr W Nutt that Messrs J Wyatt, J Nutt and J Head be added to the Burial Board in place of the retiring members.  In favour of the above 8, against 3. The names of the retiring members ditto. The new members were elected.

                The following is a list o the members of the Burial Board:  Rev Braines, Mr G H Scriven, Mr G H Cossins, Rev W H Strong, Col Pinney, Mr W D Snook, J Wyatt, J Small [?], J Head.

                The undermentioned were nominated to serve in the office of Overseers:

Messrs R H Scriven, J Crocker, F Gare, J Thompson,  Wyatt, J I Hodges, G Walter, G Pittard, G Clerke, J Peddle.

Parish of Somerton, April 17th 1884.

At a Vestry held this day in the Vestry room of this Parish on Thursday next the 17th instant at 11 o’clock in the forenoon for the purpose of examining the Churchwardens and Charity accounts, and also to appoint churchwardens, the Overseers and the Clerk to the Burial Board will also produce their accounts for examination.

The Rev J G Carter being voted to the chair, the minutes of the last meeting were read over and confirmed.

                The Rev J G Carter informed the meeting that the Rev W H Strong wished him to appoint Mr W Jennings to continue as his churchwarden.

                Proposed by Mr W Peddle and seconded by Mr W Snook junior that Mr W D Snook continue to fill the office of Parish churchwarden which was carried.

                The Charity accounts were produced, examined and passed.

                The Overseers accounts were also produced and passed.

                The accounts of the Burial Board were produced, examined, found correct and passed.

                It was suggested that a new flag souls be found by the churchwardens, but afterwards it was resolved to let the matter rest and try to raise one by subscription.

Parish of Somerton, 8th May 1884.

At a Vestry held this day in the Vestry room of this Parish pursuant of due notice of which the following is a copy:

Notice is hereby given that a Vestry will be held in the Vestry Room of this Parish on Thursday next the 8th instant at 11 o’clock in the forenoon for the purpose of granting the Overseers a Poor and Sanitary Rate to meet the orders made on them for the present half year.

Proposed by Mr Hobbes and seconded by Mr F G Gunning that Mr J Wyatt take the chair.

                Proposed by Mr J Crocker and seconded by Mr Gunning that a Rate of 1/1 in the £ be granted to the Overseers to meet the ??? orders.

                Proposed by Mr Hobbes and seconded by Mr Gunning that a Sanitary Rate at 8d in the £ on house property and 2d in the 3 on land be granted to meet the Sanitary Order for the next half year, to  ??? was granted unanimously.

                The minutes of the last meeting were read over and confirmed.

Parish of Somerton, November 6th 1884.

At a Vestry held this day in the Vestry room of this parish pursuant to due notice of which the following is a copy:

Notice is hereby given that a Vestry will be held in the Vestry Room on Thursday next the 6th instant at 11 o’clock in the forenoon for the purpose of granting the Overseers a Poor and Sanitary Rate to meet the orders made on them for the present half-year.

                And notice is also hereby given that the Hon Thomas Henry W Pelham will attend at the Board room of the Guardians of the Langport Union at the Workhouse High Ham on Friday 7th instant at 11 o’clock in the forenoon for the purpose of settling the draft orders about to be issued by the Local government Board under the Divided Parishes Act and Poor Law Amendment Act of 1876 and Poor law Act of 1879, and also for verifying the description of those parts of the Parish, being a Parish affected, by the said orders.

                Proposed by Mr W D Snook and seconded by Mr W Hewson that a rate at 1/1 in the £ be granted to the Overseers to meet the orders of the Union, Highway &c for the present half year, which was unanimously carried.

Proposed by Mr W D Snook and seconded by Mr John Peddle that a Sanitary Rate at 1/2d on the house and orchard property and 3½d on land be granted the Overseers to meet the sanitary Orders made on them for the present half-year, which was carried.

Parish of Somerton, November 13th 1884.

In pursuance of a notice received from the Inspectors for the Parish of Somerton, duly appointed under the Act of 3 & 4 Wm 4 chapter 90, we do hereby give notice that a meeting of the Ratepayers of the said parish will be held in the Vestry room in the said Parish on the 13th day of November at 11 o’clock a.m. for the purpose of the said Inspectors producing their accounts and vouchers, and for the election o Inspectors for the execution of the same Act, and for determining the amount of the money to be raised for the purposes of the said Act for the current year.

                Proposed by Mr James Nutt and seconded by Mr H J Watts that a rate of 7d in the £ be granted to meet Messrs Thomas & Co’s a/c rendered to be collected forthwith – carried unanimously.           Proposed b y Mr H W Ord and seconded by Mr H J Watts that Mr James Nutt act as one of the Inspectors of the Public Lamps – carried.

                Proposed by Mr H J Watts and seconded by Mr W H Ord that Mr Thomas Gunning act as an Inspector with E W Valentine and Mr James Nutt of the Public Lamps – which was unanimously carried.

                The minutes of the last meeting were read over and confirmed.
